Title:
The Effect of Using Computer for Teaching English in the Elementary Saudi Classrooms in Asir Region.

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the effect of using computer in teaching English language in the elementary stage in Asir in Saudi Arabia . The importance of this research relies upon the fact that it investigates whether this effect has a positive or negative side on the Saudi learners specially in this young age. The methodology that I will use in this research to collect data is both quantitative and qualitative. The questionnaire will be submitted to 40 participants among school's teachers and supervisors . The data analysis that I will use in this research is the descriptive statistics. The main results and findings of the research will reveal the effect of using computer on learning the English language in that region at this young age. The study will conclude with suggestions and recommendations to improve using technology in the classrooms..
Aims and objectives:
The research seeks to evaluate the weaknesses and the strengths of using computer in the elementary stage and determined whether it is sufficient and effective way in teaching that could achieve the goals of teaching English for the students at this early age .

Background :
English language has become an important tool of communication among nations. Therefore , the Saudi government started to teach it as a foreign language in governmental schools. The Ministry of Education started to teach English starting from the sixth grade in 2004 and from the fourth grade in 2011. In this paper, I will give an evaluation of  using computer in a series named "We Can". It is specially designed for the elementary stage. The designers of this series tried to make it suitable to our community and culture. I will try to investigate if using computer in teaching is suitable for Saudi children and if it could achieve the communicative purpose and goals of teaching and if it helps them to improve their proficiency in learning English. It is a new and experimental curriculum therefore the evaluation is an educational necessity.
Research Design :
This research will depend on  Dell Hymes' theory in the communicative approach. According to Hymes, The basic foundation of the communicative theory is that the learner should use the target language as a tool of interaction and communication .Thereby , the language is being learned implicitly rather than explicitly. This research aims to investigate whether using computer can provide such an environment for the students . In other words, it can provide what Krashen has considered as a “comprehensible input” and whether it is suitable to our community and culture and if it could achieve the communicative purpose and goals of teaching.
Methodology:
The research will be both qualitative and quantitative  in nature. I will use a questionnaire  and my own experiences and opinions as I worked as an EFL teacher in a governmental elementary school in Saudi Arabia for about three years .
The questionnaire will include  8 different questions. The questionnaire will be submitted to 50 participants among teachers and  supervisors.
Significance:
The importance of this research relies upon the fact that it reflects the weaknesses and the strengths of using computer in the Saudi classrooms in Asir; which use a new curriculum and started the teaching of English in the last two years. The research tries to decide whether using computer is sufficient and effective way of learning specially to the student's early age in Asir region.
